Nemo is amazing, friendly kind and gentle. He is a rescue and as such came to us knowing very little about how to interact with people or ride, but very appreciative always. He and Chloe have bonded through many months of time spent together working on everything! He is sweet and gentle and loved.
Silver is our youngest, tallest full-size horse. He is a Tennessee Walker. He really loves to go fast and explore everything around him. Sometimes he forgets to make sure his person wants to go that fast. He is kind and friendly but young and rowdy. He is also our blank canvas when it comes to parties that include decorating a horse with (soap) paint!
Treasure is the oldest and most seasoned member of our family. He is a Missouri Fox Trotter that is friendly and great to ride. He does love to be first at feed time and hates it when he is alone. He gets along with all the others as long as he can eat first! He is absolutely loved, completely spoiled, and sometimes can be a brat!
Misty and her daughter Stormy (named after the famous ponies of Chincoteague) are one of the most recent members of the family. She is a bit timid and protective of her baby but was rescued and we expect her to learn quickly how well visitor she will be treated now that she is with us at Riptide Stables and become a visitor favorite. She is very tiny and will stay that way!
Stormy is a sweet baby (daughter of Misty), she is so inquisitive and excited to be here at the farm. She wants to follow you around and interact with everything and everyone. It is clear that her mom protected her from anything scary in her past surroundings because there isn't a thing about her that is shy or timid. She will run to the fence when she sees you coming.
Shadow's name says it all. She loves attention and will follow you anywhere. She is one of the mini donkeys that can be with any other animal and is friendly and passive. She will put up with anyone and anything... especially if there is a treat to work for. She is very slow and gentle. She was sick a while back and needed to go to NC State Animal Hospital. They didn't want to let her come home. Everyone fell in love!
We met Rosie when she was 3 weeks old for the first time. She had been anticipated since before she was born and she didn't disappoint. We instantly fell in love. 4 months later we got to take her home. She has grown up with her best friend Rascal by her side. He is only a week younger than her. They have been inseparable since birth!
This is Rascal. He is the smallest Jack with the biggest personality. He is also the namesake of our farm. When we eventually have miniature donkeys for sale that were bred here at Riptide Stables it is likely they will be one of the "Riptide Rascals" Rascal will live up to his namesake we are sure. He is not yet 2 years old and already a farm favorite by both the jennys and people that visit!
Blaze came to us from a breeding farm where he was kept alone in a small area. He was treated very well but not allowed near the other donkeys. He is a beautiful, unusually colored jack,. At the farm he was from, his father was famous and he was just another jack. Here at Riptide, we allowed him to interact and have friends and he is sweet and loving. and oh so loud when he says hello. He is always happy to see people and loves attention.
Truffles is a dark cholate colored jenny with a bit of sass. She does love treats and people but often waits in the distance a bit until she knows the coast is clear. She is cautious but gets friendlier every day. She is going to be as sweet as her name soon. All the attention from visitors has really helped her learn to trust people. She also has become great friends with Shadow who is showing her nice attention can be. She will melt your heart.
Pixie is just over 3 years old and you may not notice from the photo here but when you see her in person you will think she is a baby. She is smaller than any other micro mini we have and quite honestly I am not sure I have ever seen a full grown donkey smaller. She stands only 24" tall and is cute fluffy most of the time you can barely see her eyes. You will want to pick her up and hug her like a puppy!
Wiley is one of our first miniature donkeys at the farm. He and his best buddy Mayhem came to us from a wonderful local farm where the critters were allowed to run free on lots of lands with not much human interaction. When we asked the owner if we could buy a donkey or two from her huge herd, she told us we could buy the boys if we could catch them. Took us all day in July of 2019. Since then Wiley went from sneaky and scared to mellow and sweet. He has learned to play nice with everyone at the farm!
Izzy doesn't live at the farm full time but she is there often and feels like she owns the place. She is old and slow but tries to keep up with the doodles that are also part-time residents. She is a rescue that has been with us for about 8 years. She doesn't like all dogs but loves all people. She is always looking for a belly rub!
Barley is one of the "crazy doodles" . He is fast and energetic and full of life. He loves everyone and everything and thinks that all of the animals on the farm want to play with him. When they run, he thinks it is a game. He doesn't want to hurt them, just to play with them. He is learning (we hope). He also thinks it is fun to jump in the pond and then come over to say hello. There is not a mean bone in his body. He and his sister Hops have sleepovers at the farm now and then but often just come by to run and run and run and run and run and run....
Hops is Barley's sister. She is fast and playful too, but she would prefer someone's undivided attention to a game of fetch. She will play and loves anything that Barley wants that she can get to before him. She looks like a teddy bear and acts like one too. She just wants to be snuggled and loved. If you stop petting her she paws you to remind you she is still there! While needy, she is a sweet girl
Ivy was named by Chloe and was rescued on the side of the road. She came to the farm as a kitten with the goal of being a barn cat that lived off any mice she could find and roamed the property. She won the heart of the farm's caregiver, Bobby, who then spoiled her with too much food and attention to ever be a barn cat. He calls her "kitty-kitty" and lets her into his cottage at night. She doesn't know she is supposed to catch mice.
Stella lives at the farm and is Bobby's beloved side kick. He loves when the doodles and Izzy come to play because then she may be able to sneak out of Bobby's sight long enough to jump in the pond or go explore the woods for a little while. She is sweet and shy with amazing blue eyes. You will see her wherever Bobby is. She goes on rounds twice a day to feed all the animals. She is a full-time resident.
